Biennial or short-lived perennial 3-22 cm. Leaves 5-27 x 1,5-8 mm, oblanceolate, oblong-spathulate or obovate, margin entire to ± deeply and bluntly toothed in upper ½ , ciliate, lamina glabrous or with short hairs towards margin and apex. Scapes with an indumentum of short, branched hairs and with shorter glandular hairs often also present. Inflorescence ± capitate, 4-14-flowered. Bracts 4-7 mm, linear-lanceolate to broadly oblong with long simplehairs. Pedicels 0-4 mm. Calyx 4-5 mm with simple hairs, short glandular hairs also occasionally present, lobes shorter than tube. Corolla 6-9 mm diam., white to rose, lobes obovate to oblong. Capsule 2,5-3,5 mm. Fl. 5-7. Igneous screes, limestone rocks, grassy often N.-facing slopes, 1400-3200 m.
