Biennial, 2-15 cm, ± glabrous except on leaves. Leaves 6-20 x 1.5-6 mm, elliptic to oblong, usually coarsely toothed in upper ½ , with a fringe of short mostly simple hairs on margin, otherwise glabrous. Inflorescence 3-12-flowered. Bracts to 4.5 mm, elliptic to ovate-lanceolate, usually shorter than pedicels. Pedicels 3-30 mm, slender, eventually markedly unequal. Calyx 4-5 mm, lobes ± shorter than tube. Corolla 5-8 mm diam., lobes oblong to obovate, white with yellow eye, fading red. Capsule 4-5 mm. Fl. 6-7. Volcanic, limestone or non-lime rocks, turf, moist banks, 2000-2800 m.
