Tuber large, sometimes more than 15 cm diam., globose or depressed-globose, corky, often fissured, rooting mainly from top and sides. Leaves appearing a little after the flowers in late summer and autumn, 3-14 cm long and almost as wide, often distinctly angled, margins subentire or coarsely and irregularly toothed. Corolla white or pale pink, lobes about 2 cm, auriculate at base and marked with short, bifurcate crimson streaks. Fruiting pedicel coiling from apex. Fl. 8-11. Rocky slopes and banks, usually in shade, s.l.-800 m.
