Small scapose annual with a basal rosette of linear, entire leaves. Scapes several, ascending to erect, unbranched, thickened and subclavate in fruit, shorter than, and equalling fruiting receptacle in width. Rowers small, solitary, terminal, regular, hermaphrodite. Sepals 5, spurred at base, pale greenish-yellow. Petals 5, equalling or slightly shorter than sepals, tubular, with central nectary, pale yellow. Stamens 5-10; anthers yellow. Carpels numerous, each with single ovule. Achenes small, tightly packed along receptacle, narrowly cylindrical, with dorsal ridge extending into 0.5 mm long slender beak, fl. and fro 4-6. Damp slopes and pastures, vernal pools with other herbs such as Cicendia filiformis, Isoetes duriei, Lythrum botysthenicum, Radiola linoides, etc, 0-600 m.
