Perennial, 5-30 cm, collar bearing parallel fibres; root tubers slenderly cylindrical, 3-5 cm. Stems 1-9-flowered, like leaves and sepals subadpressed-villose, often subsericeous. Radical leaves trilobed or tripartite, broadly cuneate or truncate at base, segments cuneate, not overlapping, subobtusely lobulate, the middle segment 3-7-toothed. Cauline leaves tripartite into linear segments. Sepals spreading. Petals 8-14 mm. Fruiting head suborbicular, c.8mm. Achenes obtusely triangular, 2.5 mm, tuberculate, long-pilose, attenuated into a divergent, nearly straight, 2.5 mm beak. Fl. 4-6. Open scrub, stony places, scree, 500-2100 m.
N. Iraq. Often confused in herbaria with R. cuneatus and even R. reuterianus, but differing from both in the form of its roots.
