Handsome perennial, 20-60 cm. Root tubers fusiform-cylindrical, 3-5 cm. Stem ± villose like the petioles, 5-15-flowered. Radical leaves reniform-orbicular, 8-15 cm across, cordate at base, divided to ½ into broad, crenate-dentate lobes. Sepals spreading. Petals 1,5-2,5 cm. Fruiting head ovate-oblong, 12-15 x 9-11 mm. Achenes ovate-orbicular, 3 mm, flat, winged, contracted into a spreading, lanceolate, uncinate, 1,5 mm beak. Fl. 3-5. Among shady limestone rocks.
