Ranunculus isthmicus
Ssp isthmicus: Köstebekotu; Ssp stepporum: Kır köstebekotu; Ssp tenuifolius: İnce köstebekotu
Perennial, 5-15 cm, adpressed-pilose to subsericeous. Root tubers oblong-fusiform, 1-2 cm. Stems divaricately 2-9-flowered. Radical leaves 2-4-pinnatisect,dissected into linear or oblong laciniae. Sepals strongly reflexed. Petals 5-7, oblong, 8-13 mm. Fruiting head ovate-orbicular, 10-15 mm. Achenes persistent, tuberculate, glabrous, 3-4 mm, produced below into a smooth ovate appendage, tapering above into a recurved triangular or lanceolate, flattened beak, 1-1,5 x achene.
A polymorphic species of which 3 subspecies may be distinguished. Each of these is centred in its own ecogeographical area, but considerable morphological overlap occurs.
1. Beak of achene triangular-lanceolate or narrowly triangular, as long as the achene; radical leaves variable, all 2-3-pinnatisect or the outer ones trisect or tripartite with lobed segments. subsp. isthmicus
1. Beak of achene lanceolate, c. 1,5 x achene ; radical leaves all 2-4-pinnatisect
2. Leaves 2-3-pinnatisect; laciniae oblong-linear, 1-2 mm broad, densely canescent or subsericeous; stems usually 6-many-flowered subsp. stepporum
2. Leaves always 3-pinnatisect; laciniae narrowly linear, 0'3-1 mm broad, adpressed-pilose, green, usually more numerous; stems 1-7-flowered subsp. tenuifolius
