Perennial, 30-60 cm tall, often glaucescent, glabrous, smooth to scabrid, Stem erect or ascending, branched. Leaves entire or in part trisect, petiolate or sessile, oblong or rounded obovate, 1.5-6 cm wide, margin flat, rarely undulate, lobes of the upper leaves narrow. Flowers 6-8-merous, in dense spiciform racemes elongating in fruit, shortly pedicellate. Petals 3-5 mm long , white or yellow, upper petal 9-11 laciniate , Stamens 12-18. Capsules 3.5-7 mm, erect, oblong-clavate or obovoid, 3-toothed. Seeds 0.6-1 mm long, dark brown, glossy, smooth. Fl. 3-4. Rocky slopes. steppic plains.

Differs from other 5 subspecies in having obovate-broadly spathulate stem leaves with rounded apices. Stem 40-60 cm; young fruiting inflorescence 6-32 x 0.8-1.2 cm.
