Annual to biennial herbs, erect, up to 40 cm, usually papillose-scabrid. Leaves often entire below, those above trisect or pinnatifid. Flowers fragrant. Sepals scabrid, enlarging in fruit. Petals 5-7, white, the lateral lobes of the back petal limbs palmately 4-6 divided into spathulate or oblanceolate segments. Staminal filaments dilated below anthers. Capsule broadly ovoid, truncate, the nerves strongly papillose-scabrid, pendulous. Seeds rugose, yellow-grey to light brown, 2,5 mm, without a distinct sinus. Fl. 4. Sandy or rocky places, s.l.-100 m.
