Small tree up to 8 m; thorns 1,5 cm, stout. Leaves broadly obovate to oblong-obovate or cuneate, up to 5 x 3,5 em, bilaterally sparsely adpressed-villous to glabrous; leaves on fertile stems often cuneate with deeply dentate apex; leaves on sterile shoots with 3-5 forward-pointing lobes sometimes divided almost to the midrib; petioles 5-8 mm. Inflorescence compact, 3-18-flowered, white-tomentose. Flowers white, 12-16 mm diam.; sepals triangular, reflexed in fruit; styles 2-3. Fruit globose, 12-18 mm diam., glabrous or a little hairy, especially towards the apex; pyrenes 2-3.
