Shrub up to 4 m; axillary spines numerous, 0.5-1.2 cm. Leaves broadly ovate, on fertile shoots 1-3 x 1-2.8 cm, on sterile shoots up to 5 cm long, subtruncate or broadly cuneate at base, at first bilaterally hairy with hairs restricted to the veins and margins on upper surface, later glabrous; lobes 3-5, incised to 2/3-3/4 of the lamina; obtuse or acute, dentate or crenate; petioles 0,5-2,5 cm; sepals acute; style solitary. Fruit bright red, elongate-ellipsoid to pyriform, rarely orbicular, 9-12 x c. 6 mm, pilose when young; sepals remaining erect in fruit. Fl. 4-6. Forest, thickets, 20-1450 m.
