Tree up to 8-12 m, unarmed or spinescent when young; twigs slightly tomentose. Leaves elliptic to obovate or suborbicular, 3-8 x 2-4 cm, crenate or serrate, pilose when young, especially so above, on maturity glabrous or slightly tomentose above, tomentose or occasionally glabrescent beneath; petioles tomentose. Flowers 3-4 cm diam., in 4-6-flowered corymbs; calyx densely tomentose-pilose. Pome subglobose, 2-3 cm diam. , green, greenish-yellow or reddish; pedicels 1-2,5 cm or more. Fl. 4-5.
