Procumbent or ascending, adpressed-pubescent perennial with a tuber-like woody stock. Flowering stems 5-40 cm. Leaves trifoliolate, cauline sessile; leaflets obovate to oblong-lanceolate, 5-25 mm, dentate to incised-serrate, glabrous or sparsely pilose, green above, adpressed-pilose, greenish-grey beneath. Flowers 4- or rarely 5-merous. Epicalyx segments oblong-lanceolate, usually as long as or slightly shorter than 2-4 mm, ovate-lanceolate sepals. Petals yellow, oblong-ovate to obcordate, 3-4,5 mm, usually longer than sepals. Achenes rugose or rarely smooth; style subterminal, conical at base, clavate at apex. Fl. 4-8. Wet places, s.l.-2400 m.
