Spinescent shrub or small tree up to 6 m; young twigs white-villous at first, soon becoming glabrous. Leaves narrowly lanceolate or elliptic to obovate, 2,5-5 x 1-2 cm, entire or slightly crenate towards apex, white-villous below at first, becoming bilaterally glabrous, green above, glaucescent beneath, decurrent or rounded at base, sessile or with petioles up to 2 cm. Inflorescence many-flowered, greyish-tomentose. Flowers 2-2,5 cm diam. Fruit subglobose, 2-3 cm diam., yellowish-brown; sepals persistent; pedicels 2-3 cm, thick. FI. 3-4. Mainly in open forest and in macchie, 80-1500 m.
