Low, densely pulvinate perennial, 2-4 cm. Older parts of stem prostrate to ascending, younger branches ascending to erect, quadrangular, hispidulous. Lower leaves imbricate, 2-4 x 0.7-1.2 mm, oblanceolate, subacute to apiculate, often thickish, nearly glabrous, middle and upper 5-8 x 0.5-1.2 mm, linear-oblanceolate to sublinear, acute to aristate, with awns to 0.3 mm and distinctly revolute margins, ± densely hispid, not nigrescent on drying. Flowers numerous in mainly terminal head-like cymes or in few additional verticillasters along flowering branches. Bracts of terminal heads 3-6 x 0.7-1 mm, oblong to linear-oblong, rarely lanceolate, acuminate to aristate, with awns to 1 mm and flat margins, ± hispid. Calyx absent. Corolla pale creamy pink, 3.5-4.5 mm, infundibular, with lobes 1.5-2 mm, 2 x shorter than tube, ± hispidulous outside, Ovary verrucose, with predominantly conical papillae. Fl. 5-7. Steep non-lime slopes, among short turf and rocks, thorn cushion steppe, Quercus scrub, 2150-2800 m.
