Perennial herbs with robust woody rootstock. Stems numerous, stolon-like at base, ascending to erect, vegetative and floriferous, 10-30 cm, semiterete, ± hairy, with short, densely leafy lateral branches. Leaves in whorls of 6-8, 7-12 x0.5-1 mm, thick and linear, glaucous, with strongly revolute margins, ± hairy. Thyrses consisting of dense cymose ter-minal and lateral heads; bracts 6-9 mm, lanceolate, often ± connate with stipules into lobed elements. Corollas 5-merous, 6-9 mm, purplish, greenish or yellowish with densely hairy to glabrous tube and lobes. Mericarps 2.5-4 mm, hirsute or glabrous and granulate. 2n = 20.
