Annual herb. Stems 8-20 cm, slightly rough. Leaves in whorls of 5-6, lowermost obovate-elliptic, upper lanceolate to linear, 10-25 x 1-4 mm, with ± revolute margins. Spikes terminal or with one to several lateral shortly pedunculate or ± sessile spikes, 2-8 cm, dense . Bracts ovate-lanceolate, 5-8 x 2-3 mm, free, rounded with a broad vein, acuminate, loosely adpressed but with slightly recurved tips, margins flat, hyaline, broad below and gradually narrowed above, minutely ciliolate, surface otherwise glabrous and smooth , base not inflated, epidermal cells not enlarged; bracteoles much narrower and shorter. Flowers 4-merous; corolla yellowish, 3-5 mm, hardly exceeding bracts. Calyx represented by a very narrow rim. Mericarps finely granulate. Fl. 5-6. Clearings in sclerophyll forest or macchie, rocky or sandy slopes, s.l.-1000 m.
