Dwarf perennial, forming dense tufts. Stems prostrate, with erect, 2-4 cm, quadrangular, papillose to hispid branches. Leaves green, shiny, not nigrescent on drying; lower densely imbricate, 2-3 x 0.6-0.8 mm, at least twice as long as internodes, lanceolate, shortly cuspidate, with 0.1-0.3 mm hyaline apex and scabrid margins; upper 6-8 x 0.5-0.8 mm, linear, cuspidate to aristate, with awns 0.5-0.8 mm and distinctly revolute margins, somewhat curved inwards, hispid. Flowers in depauperate groups of 2-4 in axils of leafy bracts. Calyx present, consisting of minute irregular, papillose-denticulate lobes. Corolla lurid pink, 10-12 mm, narrowly infundibular, with verruculose tube and c. 3 mm long, ± erect, cucullate-appendiculate, glabrous lobes. Ovary densely papillose. Fl. 6.
