Very closely related to G. spurium but stems usually longer , stouter and often more hairy at nodes; leaves 30-60 x 3-8 mm, narrowly to broadly oblanceolate, ± mucronate at apex; corolla 1.5-2 mm diam., whitish; mericarps 3-5 mm, hispid with dense, hooked setae arising from a dilated, tubercle-like base. Fl. 4-7. Weeds, scrub, cultivated ground, 30-1800 m.
Europe, N., W. & C. Asia, N. America; introduced world-wide as a weed.
