Many-stemmed annual, 10-35 cm. Stems prostrate-ascending, often flexuous, quadrangular to almost 4-winged, sparingly retrorsely scabrid in lower parts, glabrous above, sometimes ± hirsute, without retrorse setae. Leaves in whorls of 6-12, lower 3-12 x 1-3.5 mm, obovate-spathulate upper 6-14 x 1-3.5 mm, narrowly oblanceolate-oblong to linear, sometimes obovate, acuminate to cuspidate-aristate, with hyaline apex, shortly petiolate, antrorsely setulose at the somewhat revolute margins and ± hirsute above. Inflorescence corymbiform to pyramidal, branches usually trichotomous, ± close together at anthesis, glabrous. Pedicels 1.5-6 mm, divaricate or ± deflexed and usually thickened in fruit, glabrous, rarely hirsute. Bracts linear, absent from ultimate branchings. Corolla dirty white, rotate, 2.5-4.5 mm diam., lobes triangular-oblong, aristate or apiculate. Ovary hirsute, with subuncinate hairs. Mericarps broadly reniform, 1.25-2.5 mm, tuberculate-spinulose, with tubercles strongly dilated at base.
