Stems 30-60 cm, ± erect, with 4 distinct, often whitish angles, smooth or with only a few hooked hairs. Leaves usually in whorls of 6, 12-18 x 1-1.5 mm, linear to linear-lanceolate, with ± revolute and rough margins. Inflorescences many-flowered, interruptedly broadly pyramidal; partial inflorescences relatively dense; pedicels 2-4 mm, glabrous, convergent in fruit. Corolla white or pinkish, 2-3 mm diam., with ± ovate, often ± acute lobes. Anthers ellipsoid. Mericarps subglobose or globose, c. 2 mm, glabrous, distinctly tuberculate. Fl. 5-7. In open, wet or marshy habitats, s,.l.-1400 m.
