Flaccid, diffuse annual, 5-20 cm. Stems several from common base, procumbent or ascending, simple or sparingly branched above, quadrangular, smooth or somewhat retrorsely scabrid on angles, rarely hirsute above. Leaves in whorls of 4-6, 3-10 x 0.6-2.5 mm, oblong-elliptic to oblanceolate, cuspidate, margins flat to slightly revolute, antrorsely scabrid-denticulate, hairy to glabrescent. Inflorescence narrowly cylindrical, verticillasters 1-4-flowered. Peduncles to 1 mm, pedicels 0.5-2 mm, deflexed in fruit, glabrous to slightly hispidulous, shorter than bracts. Corolla yellowish, c. 0.5- 0.7 mm diam., cup-shaped, lobes ovate, acute, glabrous or ± hairy outside. Mericarps cylindrical, curved and disjointed, 1.3-1.5 mm, with uncinate setae especially towards apex, rarely glabrous. Fl. 3-4. Roadsides, rocky ground and other dry open habitats, s.l.-1700 m.
