Stems 15-30 cm, slender, ± retrorsely aculeolate on ± whitish angles. Leaves in whorls of 4-6, 8-12 x 1.5-2.5 mm, narrowly to rather broadly oblong-oblanceolate, obtuse, with rough margins. Inflorescences many-flowered, interruptedly cylindrical; partial inflorescences ± dense; pedicels 1-3 mm, glabrous, divaricate in fruit. Corolla white or pinkish, 2-3 mm diam., with ovate lobes. Anthers ellipsoid. Mericarps ± globose, c. 2-2.5 mm, ± smooth. Fl. 5-7. In marshy ground and wet places, 50-1550 m.
