Slender annual, 15-30 cm, Stems erect to ascending, branched from base or in upper 1/2 only, quadrangular, ± sparingly retrorsely scabridulous on angles. Leaves in whorls of 4-8, 5-12 x 0.6-3 mm, lower oblanceolate, oblong to spathulate, obtuse to subacute, finely antrorsely scabrid-puberulent above, along flat margins and sometimes along narrow midrib below, upper narrowly oblanceolate, linear to subfiliform, ± obtuse, ± hirsute towards the base above, sparingly scabrid-puberulent along flat to slightly revolute margins. Thyrses lax, diffuse, ± broadly ovoid, with many-flowered, corymbiform cymes. Bracts few, absent from the ultimate branches, 2-8 mm, narrowly linear-oblanceolate, hirsute towards the base above. Peduncles c. 5-15 mm and pedicels c. 1-3 mm, capillary, divaricate, glabrous. Corolla purplish-green, rotate, 0.7-1.1 mm diam.; tube somewhat contracted; lobes triangular-ovate, incurved-apiculate to shortly mucronate . Ovary with adpressed hairs on back. Mericarps yellowish, broadly reniform, c. 0.6-0.7 mm, adpressed-hairy or hirsute with uncinate hairs to 0.2 mm long. Fl. 4-5. Dry hills, macchie, 10-310 m.
