Annual. Stems ascending to erect, branched, 7-20 cm. Leaves linear, 10-35 x 0.5-1.5 mm. Inflorescence subspicate, Bracts 3-6 x as long as fruit, 2-3 x as long as bracteoles. Perianth greenish-white, 1.25-1.5 mm, carnpanulate, lobes triangular, c. 0.5 mm. Fruit 2.5-3 x 1.2-2 mm; nut oblong-ellipsoid, reticulate-nerved, dull-textured, persistent perianth ¼-1/5 x as long as nut; fruiting pedicel slightly swollen, nuts held erect. Fl. 3-4.
