Perennial or biennial, strongly foetid. Stems prostrate to suberect, 9-50 cm, flexuous, villous. Petiole of leaves to 14 cm; lamina reniform to rhomboidal, 23-65 x 14-70 mm, apex broadly obtuse to subacute, base cordate to cuneate, margin crenate, bicrenate or simply to doubly dentate. Bracts similar to leaves but smaller. Inflorescence leafy, lax; cymes 3-5-flowered; peduncle to 6 cm; alar pedicels 5-20 mm. Calyx lobes oblong, rarely ovate, 2,7-5 x 1,5-2 mm, glabrous to hairy outside, glandular to pubescent within; scarious margin absent. Corolla red to orange-red or apricot, 5-9 mm; lobes subequal, lateral and median sometimes white. Stamens exserted; staminode absent. Capsule globose, 6 x 4,9-5,6 mm, with slender beak , glandular. Fl. 4-8. Shady sheltered cliffs, crevices and ledges, ruins, waste places, 600-2400 m.
