Biennial, 70-100 cm, loosely and shortly greyish or whitish tomentose, eglandular. Stem robust, terete or obtuse-angled, simple or with few branches below. Basal leaves obovate-oblong, 12-16 x 5 cm, finely or indistinctly crenulate, acute, petiole winged, 2-3 cm; cauline shortly and narrowly decurrent, upper auriculate. Inflorescence cylindrical, simple or sparingly branched, with crowded clusters of 2-5 flowers. Bracts lanceolate, acuminate. Pedicels absent or to 2 mm; bracteoles linear-lanceolate. Calyx 7-10 mm, lobes linear-lanceolate, acuminate. Corolla yellow, 15-20 mm diam., without pellucid glands, stellate-tomentose outside. Stamens 5, anthers reniform, filaments enlarged and shortly connate below, with purple-violet wool up to anthers. Capsule ovate, 8-11 x 6-7 mm, densely woolly-tomentose. Fl. 6. Limestone rocks and scree, 1080 m.
