Biennial to perennial, 60-120 cm, with loose, rough, greyish or yellowish indumentum of stellate hairs below, glabrescent, glabrous and glandular-hairy above. Stem robust, terete, longitudinally striate, simple or with a few branches. Basal leaves oblong to ovate, 8-18 x 3-10 cm, ± distinctly crenate, obtuse, rounded or shortly cuneate at base, petiole 2-7 cm; cauline similar but smaller, crenulate to entire. Inflorescence simple or rarely with few branches, axis glabrous, with loose clusters of 4-9 flowers. Bracts ovate to lanceolate. Pedicels absent or very short; bracteoles lanceolate. Calyx 6-9 mm, tomentose and glandular-hairy, lobes lanceolate, acute. Corolla yellow, 20-30 mm diam., without pellucid glands, stellate-tomentose outside. Stamens 5, anthers reniform, filaments enlarged, connate below, with purple-violet wool up to anthers. Capsule broadly ovate to globose, 6-8 x 5-7 mm, tomentose, glabrescent. Fl. 4-7. Limestone rocks, ruins, 150-450 m.
