Biennial, 50-150 cm, with a very dense indumentum of long, soft hairs throughout, eglandular. Stem robust, terete, simple or rarely with few branches above. Basal leaves ovate or obovate, to 40 x 20 cm, obscurely crenate, petiole 1-5 cm; cauline similar but smaller, upper sessile, entire. Inflorescence usually simple, very dense; flowers immersed in long white indumentum, 3-7 in ± congested clusters. Bracts ovate to lanceolate-triangular; bracteoles 2. Pedicels absent or to 5 mm. Calyx 6-10 mm, lobes lanceolate, acute. Corolla yellow, 30-40 mm diam., without pellucid glands, pubescent outside. Stamens 5, filaments with whitishyellow wool, 2 anterior glabrous above middle, their anthers 2,5-4 mm, decurrent. Capsule broadly ovate, 6-8 x 4-6 mm, densely white-tomentose. Fl. 5-6. Quercus scrub, Pinus forest, limestone rocks, dry slopes, s.l.-540 m.
