Perennial, 30-100 cm, finely adpressed white-tomentose, often glabrescent, eglandular. Stem slender, terete, usually branched. Basal leaves obovate to elliptic, 4-12 x 2-8 cm, crenulate to entire, obtuse, petiole 3-8 cm, upper cauline ± amplexicaul, obtuse or mucronate. Inflorescence forming oblong panicle, with ± remote clusters of 2-7 flowers. Bracts ovate to lanceolate, acuminate. Pedicels 1-4.5 mm; bracteoles lanceolate. Calyx 4-7 mm, cleft to 2/3 or ¾ into broadly lanceolate, acute lobes. Corolla yellow, 20-35 mm diam., with pellucid glands, stellate-tomentose outside. Stamens 5, anthers reniform, filaments with whitish-yellow wool up to anthers. Capsule broadly ovate, 4-5 x 3-4 mm, tomentose. Fl. 4-8. Steppe, Quercus scrub, cornfields, fallow fields, dry slopes, 270-1310 m.
