Biennial, 50-100 cm, densely whitish- or yellowish tomentose, eglandular. Stem robust, terete or somewhat striate-angled, usually branched. Basal leaves obovate to oblong, lanceolate or narrowly lanceolate, 8-30 x 2,5-8 cm, crenulate to entire, acutish and mostly acute or acuminate; petiole broadly winged, 1-5 cm; upper cauline broadly ovate to orbicular, auriculate or amplexicaul, acuminate to caudate. Inflorescence compact, many-branched, forming pyramidal panicle, with clusters of 2-7 flowers. Bracts triangular-cordate to ovate, acuminate-caudate. Pedicels to 5 mm; bracteoles lanceolate. Calyx 4-6 mm, hemispherical, lobes triangular-ovate, acute, slightly longer than tube. Corolla yellow, 20-30 mm diam., without pellucid glands, tomentose outside. Stamens 5, anthers reniform, filaments with whitish-yellow wool lip to anthers. Capsule broadly ovate to globose, 4-6 x 3,5-5 mm, densely tomentose. 2n=32. Fl. 5-9. Pinus forest, Quercus scrub, steppe, limestone rocks, scree, fallow fields, s.l.-1700 m.
