Biennial, 30-120 cm, with dense indumentum of branched eglandular hairs below, and simple, articulate, eglandular and shorter glandular hairs above. Stem robust, terete or obtusely angled, usually simple. Basal leaves lanceolate to ovate, 6-17 x 2-9 cm, coarsely crenate, bicrenate or crenate-dentate, petiole 2-12 cm; cauline smaller, upper lanceolate to linear-lanceolate, acuminate, finely crenulate. Inflorescence ± dense, 20-60-flowered. Bracts linear-lanceolate to thread-like, 10-20 x 0,5-4 mm. Pedicels to 15 mm, ebracteolate. Calyx 5-10 mm, cleft to base into unequal, linear- or oblong-lanceolate, acutish or acute lobes. Corolla yellow, 30-40 mm diam., without or with few pellucid glands, with glandular and stellate hairs outside. Filaments with purple-violet hairs, 2 anterior glabrous above. Capsule elliptic to broadly ovate, 6-10 x 5-7 mm, densely tomentose. Fl. 5-8. Rocky limestone slopes, Quercus scrub, pastures, 300-1990 m.
