Shrub 1-2,5 m. Branches greyish, arching, spines slender, few, 4-16 mm. Leaves narrowly elliptic to lanceolate, gradually attenuate at base, 1-9 x 0,4-3 cm. Flowers solitary or in clusters of 2-8. Peduncles 3-20 mm. Calyx tubular-campanulate, 3-5 mm, 2-lipped, with 3 teeth, in fruit 3-5 mm, campanulate. Corolla 10-12 mm, lobes 4-5 mm, their margins sparsely ciliate, lower part of tube narrowly cylindrical for 2,5 mm. Filaments with dense tuft of hairs at base, corolla throat densely hairy. Berry red, ovoid-ellipsoid, 6-10 mm. Fl. 4-11. Naturalized as hedges in fields and gardens or on garden walls, s.I.-1000 m.
Native of China. Cultivated or naturalized in Europe, N. Africa.
