Erect shrub 50-150 cm. Young shoots pubescent; older branches naked, glabrous, bark light grey. Leaves with petioles to 12 mm, herbaceous, oblanceolate, 30-90 x 9-20 mm, obtuse or broadly acute, glabrous; abaxial surface glaucescent. Flowers lateral, 3-6 in axils of fallen leaves, sessile, fragrant. Bracts ovate, 6 mm, caducous. Perianth 8-12 mm, deep or pale pink,  adpressed-pubescent; lobes ovate, 3-5 mm, broadly acute or obtuse. Ovary glabrous. Fruit subglobose, red. Fl. 3-6. Mountain slopes, undergrowth of Quercus-Pinus forest, 1600-2130 m.
