Tree to 35 m, Trunk ± buttressed. Bud-scales distinctly two-coloured, darker in upper part. Young twigs softly pubescent or subglabrous. Leaves to 12 x 8 cm, obovate to broadly elliptic, acuminate, strongly asymmetrical at base, sharply serrate, softly pubescent or subglabrous beneath; teeth deep and curved upwards. Samara roundish or broadly ovate, 10-12 mm, distinctly ciliate, seed central. Pedicel much longer than samara. Fl. 3-4. Lowland forests.
