Diffuse or ascending annual herb, 5-25 cm, much-branched. Leaves broadly ovate to broadly elliptic, to 1.2 x 0.8 cm. Inflorescences of solitary or paired 3-flowered cymose axillary clusters to c. 0.8 cm diam. Bracts oblong to obovate, in fruit accrescent to narrowly spathulate, indurate and ± saccate below. The 2 lateral flowers of each cluster hermaphrodite or male, the former brown and cylindrical-accrescent to c. 3-4 mm and the latter campanulate, pale, c. 1-1.5 mm. Central flower female, at first ± equalling bracts but soon shorter, perianth segments c. 1.75 mm, connivent, very narrowly lanceolate and tapering almost from base. Fl. 4-6. Limestone rocks, walls, nr s.l.
