Perennial. Flowering stem 70-150 cm, glabrous. Leaves broadly linear, 20-60 cm long, to 4.5 cm broad, glabrous, margin scabrid. Raceme 15-70 cm, dense. Bracts linear-lanceolate, 10-15 mm, ciliate, usually shorter than pedicels. Perianth segments white or greenish-yellow, 10-13 mm, with purple or greenish mid-vein. Stamens long-exserted; anthers orange-red. Capsule 6-9 mm, globose, mucronate, transversely ribbed. Seeds narrowly winged. Fl. 5-7. Steppe, open scrub, limestone rocks and screes, 1000-2750 m.
