Perennial 10-35 cm, the stems simple arising from a woody base. Floral leaves shortly petiolate. Stipules with a subulate free portion and broad base. Leaflets 1-3 cm, obovate to broadly elliptic, deeply emarginate. Inflorescence ovoid, becoming cylindrical in fruit, 1,5-3,0 cm wide, sessile. Calyx tubular, 10-nerved, hairy; teeth lanceolate-subulate, 5-7 mm, acute, unequal; in fruit throat closed by a 2-lipped callosity. Corolla pale yellow, up to 30 mm. Fl. 5-8. Subalpine meadows, river banks, deciduous woodland, etc., 200-2000 m.
