Bulb 5-15 mm diam. Leaves 3-6, linear, hysteranthous, flat. not or scarcely keeled, usually twisted longitudinally and sometimes markedly spiralled, 1-4 mm broad. very dark green and often slightly glaucous. Scape at most 1.5 cm and subterranean at anthesis. Bract 2.2-4 cm. Flower yellow, sessile. Perianth tube 1.8-2.7 cm; segments narrowly oblanceolate. 2.3-3,3 x 0.2-0.5 cm. Filaments c. 4-8 mm. Seeds strophiolate. Fl. 9-11. In open stony areas, thin turf or sparse scrub, 150-2000 m.
