Similar to but generally smaller than I. heterolepis. Stems several, 10-20cm, shortly branched above. Basal leaves oblanceolate, 2-4 x 0,75-1,75 cm, borne on 1-3 cm petioles, apex obtuse or acute, base attenuate, margin entire or obsolete denticulate, grey or whitish-tomentose on both surfaces, finely reticulate; cauline leaves elliptic, green, ± pubescent above, greyish-tomentose beneath, decreasing in size upwards, subpetiolate or sessile. Capitula obconical, disciform, 2-10 in loose racemes or panicles. Involucre 0,75-1 cm broad; phyllaries imbricate, 4-5-seriate; outer ovate-lanceolate, 3-4 x 1-1,5 mm, greyish-tomentose; inner linear-lanceolate, 5,5-6,5 x 0,5-0,75 mm, scarious, ciliate. Female flowers few, narrowly tubular, 2-3-lobed at apex, 4-4,5 mm. Fl. 6-9. On cliffs and in limestone rock crevices, 400-1700 m.
Endemic. Growing in both Irano-Turanian and Mediterranean territories.
