Erect-ascending glabrous or sparingly pubescent annual, sometimes perennial, to 70 cm. Leaves alternate below, usually opposite above, petiolate, 3-11 x 1.5-5 cm, elliptic-obovate or panduriform, obtuse or acute, entire or dentate, sometimes purple-blotched at base. Stipules sessile, glandular. Cyathia in terminal clusters, glabrous. Glands 1-2, stipitate, rounded, concave. Fruit 4.5-5.5 mm diam., smooth, glabrous. Seeds truncate-ellipsoid, 2-2.5 mm, quadrangular, tuberculate, greyish-brown. Fl. 7. Escape from cultivation.
