Distinguished from B. acetabulosa by its more densely felted indumentum, smaller ovate less cordate cauline and floral leaves that are less conspicuously crenate; broader bracteoles; smaller calyx, limb in fruit only 8-10 mm diam., twice as broad as length of calyx tube and bearing 5 small triangular lobes alternating with 5 larger semicircular lobes, all lobes mucronate; corolla c. 14 mm. Nutlets wind-dispersed in fruiting calyx. Fl. 5-6. Stony limestone places, nr s.l.-60 m.
Endemic. E. Medit. element. Distinguished from subsp. pseudodictamnus, from S. Aegean & Cyrenaica, mainly by its larger calyx limb.
