Perennial, stoloniferous herb, shortly villous. Stems erect or sometimes ascending, branched, 5-75 Cm. Leaves oblong to ovate-oblong, crenate to dentate, cordate to cuneate at base, usually amplexicaul on main stem . Lateral branches bearing smaller dentate leaves , upper ones bearing 1-4 flowers in each axil and overtopping the flowers. Pedicels 3-5 mm. Calyx obconical-campanulate, 3-5 mm, divided to 1/3 into equal triangular acute teeth. Corolla purplish-pink or mauve, 2 x calyx. Fl. 5-9. Damp places, in fresh or slightly saline marshes, by streams, in forest, moist dunes and fallow fields, 50-2350 m.
