Plant 5-15 cm; stem swollen above base, with 2-3 hyaline sheathing scales, yellowish with reddish streaks. Raceme 1-15-flowered; bracts ovate, obtuse. Perianth to 18 mm diam., pale yellow, tinged with red. Sepals and petals lanceolate, 8-12 mm. Hypochile with 2 rounded lateral lobes; epichile slightly concave, cordate, with violet spots and longitudinal rugose reddish callosities. Spur short, thick obtuse. Ovary ovoid, c. 5 mm; pedicel c. 5 mm, yellowish, sometimes spotted with violet, not twisted, glabrous. Fl. 7-8. Shady Fagus and Abies forests, 900-1700 m.
