Perennial, 15-25 cm, slightly woody at base, stems ± branched, decumbent to ascending, hirsute with ± crisp hairs. Leaves subsessile or shortly petiolate, oblanceolate, 10-15 x 4-7 mm, densely hirsute with ± crisp hairs , base long cuneate, margin deeply serrate to subpinnatifid with 3-8 teeth, ± flat. Racemes 1, erect, alternate, 6-25 cm, 30-50-flowered, densely glandular-pubescent; lower bracts pinnatifid or serrate, usually several, lowermost sterile, upper linear-lanceolate, entire; peduncle robust, 3-7 cm, thicker than axis of shoot apex. Pedicels 3-7 mm, 0,5-1 x bracts, erect in fruit. Calyx 3-5 mm, lobes 4-5, linear-lanceolate, acute, glandular-pubescent. Corolla blue or violet-blue, 8-12 mm diam. Style 3,5-4,5 mm. Capsule subelliptic to subobcordate, 5-6,5 x 4-5,5 mm, equalling or slightly exceeding calyx, densely eglandular-pubescent with short curved hairs, distinctly emarginate, base usually rounded. Seeds c. 4-10, suborbicular, 1,4-2 x 1-4-2 mm, flat, rugulose. 2n= 16. Fl. 4-5. Quercus and Pinus forests, olive groves, steppe, dry rocky places, fields, roadsides, 25-1600 m.
