Biennial. Flowering stems 60-90 cm, erect, usually stout, leafy ± at the base. Leaves glaucous, margins scabrid. Inflorescence simple, dense. Bracts 20-30 mm, lanceolate to ovate. Fruiting pedicels 15-25 mm, jointed above the middle. Perianth segments 18-20 mm, white. Capsule ± obprismatic cylindrical, 12-13 mm long, 8 mm diam., all 6 ridges distinctly carinated. Fl. 7. Stony mountain slopes, forest clearings, 1800-1900 m.
