Aquatic annual; stems simple, 0,5-2 m, rooting at the lower nodes. Floating leaves rhombic, 1-4 x 1,5-6 cm, dentate, glabrous above, usually pubescent below; petiole up to 17 cm, usually with a fusiform swelling. Petals c. 8 mm, white, caducous. Nut 2-3,5 x 2-5,5 cm . Lakesides, c. 100 m.
